Car Accident Claims the Lives of Two Teachers In Mpumalanga

Two educators who were teaching at Masitakhe and Tikhontele Secondary School passed away in a car accident which happened on the N4 towards Mbombela yesterday, 28 February 2024. The pair was driving back home from a Mathematics, Science and Technology Academy Training Session in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.

Mpumalanga Education MEC, Bonakele Majuba, expressed his sadness and shock, saying that it is painful to fathom the news of the young teachers who were on a patriotic journey to empower themselves with knowledge so that in turn they could impart it to our learners.

“Teachers remain a valuable resource for the growth and development of our communities and if one of them departs from this world it becomes a heavy blow to the department and the rest of our communities. In this case, two of them passed away and it is too much to bear for the department and the province,” Majuba said.

Majuba adds that the provincial flag will be lowered as a sign of mourning for the two lives. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family and wished those who are injured a speedy recovery.

The department will be offering psycho-social support to the schools.
