
Filled with excitement from their province’s performance, some Education MEC’s could not contain their joy as the Minister of Basic Education announced the results for the matric class of 2023.
The Free State province has retained their top position, obtaining an 89.03 % pass rate.
MEC in the province, Makalo Mohale gave credit to the teachers, parents and the community.
“First of all, we are happy and appreciate the hard work by the learners, we also appreciate everyone who has helped them, the teachers, parents and general members of the community. The results mean that indeed when everyone is working together, we can achieve more,” he said.
Mohale added that teamwork and unity from all stakeholders involved in the Basic Education sector is crucial. He stressed that all parties must put in their efforts to make the dream work.
“We really need to work in a united manner as a country. This is a collective effort,” he added.

In KwaZulu-Natal, the Education MEC, Mbali Frazer said their move to the second position in the country, with an 83.6% pass rate was made possible by their provincial improvement plan which included the Maths Indaba.
“Remember as KZN we have our provincial improvement plan. We had the Maths indaba which assisted us with the subject and to strengthen what we could,” she said.
Frazer praised parents, saying that their involvement in assisting learners with schoolwork has made a huge improvement.
“They take part and pride of their schoolwork; they make sure that they go to school. They ensure that they study, and no one disturbs them, she added.
The Limpopo Education MEC, Mavhungu Lerule- Ramakhanya thanked those who supported the Class of 2023 to prepare for the final exams. The province has improved by 7%, the most improved province and placing them at number 7 overall.
Lerule-Ramakhanya said that she is very thankful to the stakeholders and teachers who went an extra mile in making this achievement possible.
The MECs emphasized that the excellent results the learners have achieved, would have not been possible if each person within the sector did not play their part towards a common goal.
