Parents and guardians in Gauteng who used the Education department’s online applications system for Grades 1 and 8 admissions can expect to start receiving placement SMSes from 16 September 2024.
The online applications closed on 14 August 2024.
MEC Matome Chiloane has urged parents to be patient with the placement process.
“Placement offers will not be sent to all parents on 16 September, hence offers will be issued throughout the rest of the year until all learners have been placed,” said Chiloane.
As of Friday, 9 August 2024, the department had received 768 666 applications for the two grades, an increase of 11 991 applications from the previous year.
The MEC went on to remind parents and guardians that those who have already applied need to have certified copies of documents submitted to schools or uploaded by 12 noon on August 21, 2024.
“A certified copy of the proof of home address is an essential document as it is used to determine placement. Applicants who have not submitted or uploaded certified copies of proof of home address by the stipulated date, will have incomplete applications and therefore, will not receive any placement offers,” said Chiloane.
Meanwhile, in the Western Cape, Grade R applications will close on 16 August 2024.
