Tips on How to Keep up With Your School Work

With the 2024 academic year in full swing, learners are encouraged to start putting in an effort towards their studies now rather than later.

High school teachers Boniswa Telle and Christal Ditshego, have advised learners to take their school work seriously from an early stage. Ditshego highlighted that participating in class can be very intimidating for new learners, but she’s encouraged them to start now at the beginning of the year in order to familiarize themselves with their new teachers and classmates.

“Interacting with teachers and classmates plays a huge part in the performance and development of learners. If they are comfortable with communicating with their teachers and classmates, they get to ask for assistance when they need it instead of only asking mid-year when half of the syllabus is already covered,” Ditshego said.

She also encourages learners to source different study material from friends that are in other schools.

Meanwhile, Telle advised learners to not study alone. She says that creating homework and study groups with peers and setting up a timetable is a better idea. She emphasized that this does not mean copying one another’s work, but that this is a way for learners to help each other understand the work.

These are some more of the tips they shared:

  • Have a study group. If you’re absent, your study group will be able to help you catch up or summarize the lesson.
  • Associate with well-mannered and hard-working learners as this is good motivation.
  • Learners should help each other understand school work by working together.
