Principals in the Bohlabela Education District in Mpumalanga will be expected to account for the drop in the matric pass rate of the 2023 cohort.
The district, which was celebrated during the 2022 matric results for being the best performing district in the province, declined drastically in 2023, obtaining a 69,1% pass rate which was a 10% decline from the 79,3% achieved a year earlier.
Following this dismal performance, the province’s Education MEC, Bonakele Majuba and the Deputy Minister for the Basic Education Department, Dr Reginah Mhaule, will convene a meeting with school principals on the 6th of February at the district offices.
The aim of the meeting, according to a statement, is to do an analysis of the 2023 National Senior Certificate matric results and strategize the learner performance improvement plan for the Bohlabela District.
