
Six learners from Mpumalanga have died when the bus they were traveling in collided with a train yesterday.
The learners from Morélig Primary School in Mafube Village, Belfast were on their way home from school when the accident occurred. Injured learners were rushed to the nearest hospital.
The Deputy Minister of Transport, Mkhuleko Hlengwa conveyed his condolences to the affected families, while highlighting the importance of prioritizing the safety of learners.
“The safety of our children is paramount, and it is heartbreaking to witness such a loss. Our hearts go out to the families affected by this tragedy,” said Deputy Minister Hlengwa.

The Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube and the Mpumalanga Department of Education MEC, Cathy Dlamini will visit the school and the families of the learners today.
An investigation surrounding the circumstances of the accident is currently underway.
