Second Term of 2024 Academic Year Starts Tomorrow

School learners on their way to school

The first term of the 2024 academic year is done and dusted and now teachers and learners look forward to starting term two.

According to Founder of Legae La Bana Early Childhood Development Centre, Khomotso Masilo, it is important for all learners to return back to the centre on time. Even though the learners in her school are not yet in Grade 1, she believes they should be trained now so that they learn how to adjust to real school routines. She says she is looking forward to welcoming them back so they can continue with their curriculum.

“We have developed a study plan for the learners, according to their ages. We have spelling and counting classes for toddlers who are old enough to grasp the lessons and shape classes for younger toddlers. We try to prepare learners for primary school and work on training them to speak fluently, name and recognise shapes as well as numbers,” she said.

Grade 12 learner, Onalerona Mothapo said that he is over the moon and cannot wait to go back to school. Although he had been attending extra lessons during holidays, he is excited to go back to school full time. The Grade 12 boy says he wants to dedicate all his time to school in order to complete his last year with flying colours.

“This is my final year as a high school learner and I am going to use these results to apply to study IT in university. I have been studying since schools reopened in January 2024 and asking for assistance where I don’t understand. Tomorrow we are going to receive our report cards and I can’t wait to see how I have performed. I am very positive about this year and do not want any distractions. If I did not perform well, I will be sad but there is still room for improvement,” Mothapo said.

Public schools reopen tomorrow, 3 April 2024.
