
A school principal and circuit manager of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District in the North West Education Department were suspended on the 14th of March 2024, following allegations of mismanagement of the Departmental recruitment process in the Tshing Circuit.
The two were allegedly involved in influencing the recruitment process in exchange for money. The allegations were brought forward to the MEC through media reports. The department says they have served the two with suspension letters pending a thorough investigation into the allegations.
Provincial Education MEC, Viola Motsumi has urged for the protection of the whistleblower and says that the department takes allegations of misconduct seriously.
“We are committed to ensuring a fair and transparent recruitment process that upholds the highest ethical standards. As such, an independent investigation I have tasked into these allegations have commenced. The Department will ensure a swift and thorough investigation to determine the veracity of these claims and in the main, I have taken steps to ensure minimal disruption to education at the affected school. An acting principal has been appointed to maintain stability and leadership while the investigation unfolds and in the same breath, I wish to protect the whistleblower to this effect”, Motsumi expressed.
The department says that they have appointed an acting principal at the school while investigations are ongoing.
