The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department is investigating a bullying incident at Verulam Secondary School.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, a girl learner can be seen repeatedly hitting and kicking another girl learner from the same school. The learner who is being bullied tries to protect herself, while also attempting to walk away from the assault.
The education department says it is concerned about what has transpired at the school and has condemned the incident.
“We are investigating the matter, working together with the school administration and the circuit manager and will implement the appropriate measures in line with the our policies and procedures,” said Muzi Mahlambi, spokesperson from the department.
Meanwhile, the Head of Department (HoD) Nkosinathi Ngcobo is urging learners, parents and staff to report such incidents to the relevant authorities.
“Together, let us work towards creating a safe and nurturing environment, where all learners can thrive, Ngcobo said.
