Gauteng Grade 11 Female Learner Found Dead 

A family from Refilwe, in Gauteng’s Cullinan area, is grieving the life of their loved one after she was found deceased on Monday, 25 March 2024. 

The Gauteng Department of Education says the Grade 11 female learner from Chipa-Tabane Secondary School, was allegedly sexually assaulted before being strangled to death. On Friday 22 March 2024, and Saturday, 23 March 2024, she had attended extra classes, but on Sunday, 24 March 2024, she left home at 18:00 and never returned. On the same night, her mother opened a missing person’s case with the police.

Unfortunately, her lifeless body was allegedly found at her cousin’s house which was where she was reportedly last seen and the police were called to start their investigations. 

“We are deeply devastated by the passing of our dear learner, especially through such gruesome circumstances. We sympathise with her beloved family, extending our most sincere condolences to them and the school community at large,” said Gauteng Education and Youth Development MEC, Matome Chiloane.  

A suspect handed himself over to police on Monday, 26 March 2024 and is set to appear in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court today, 27 March 2024.
